Refashioned Men's T-shirt

A couple of weeks ago I hit the thrift store. I was itching to find something that I could refashion into something I'd love to wear. So I went straight to the men's extra large t-shirt section and I found exactly what I was looking for!

Geometric print...check!
Crooked silk screen design...check!

And then yesterday this happened.
Wonderful friend loaned me her serger...check!

Tunics are my go-to refashion idea these days. I work with three and four year olds and tunics and leggings are my basic uniform making it easy to be both sitting on the ground or dancing. So it's super fun to have a lot of tunic choices.
Before

After

I love it!

And now a serger is at the top of my "to purchase" wish list!

I Love my Creative Life!

I've taken some time over winter break to dive back into playing with sewing and such. I find that I love to embrace messiness in all that I do. I love leaving in mistakes, being loose with my work, and I especially love to create functional art that I or someone else will use.

Here's what I've been up to.

I made a tunic out of 3 t-shirts.

I made a bag out of one t-shirt...features my art from 2011.

I turned a scarf I knitted last year into a winter cap.

I made a messy stitched an old canvas bag with more of my 2011 paintings.

I had a number of old t-shirts with my art printed on them.

Now those shirts and my art have a new awesome life!

The bag is officially Ruby tested and approved.

Because...GIRAFFES!!!

Several weeks ago I saw a dress hanging in my mom's house. It was totally not my size and absolutely not my style, but it had the most magnificent giraffes on it. I told her how much I loved it. Skip forward to the next time I saw her and she gave me the giraffe dress!!! It sat at my house for a couple of weeks and then tonight I decided I needed to alter it into something I'd love AND wear.

This is the before photo.
I'm literally swimming in this dress!

And this is the after!
I LOVE it!!!!!
Start to finish it took fewer than 30 minutes. I'm feeling inspired to get my seamstress on! Thanks, mom!
