My First Love

When I first started painting in 2011 I painted a lot of flowers...seriously, so, so, so many flowers. They continue to be my "go to" subject matter and always leave me uplifted. After painting a delightfully long series of abstracts I revisited the flowers I love so much.

Orange Burst - Part 1

Our house feels nekkid! Dave and I took most my recent paintings and his framed photography down so we could hang it at the Alternative Space Gallery. It'll stay there for the remainder of the month. So what does that mean? I'm pretty sure it means that we need to get cookin' and create more art to cover our walls.

So this is what my "to do" list looks like.

And just in time to work on crossing off something on that list I started a new painting. Here are the first few stages.

I started with a very simple messy gray background
with a blue feature at the bottom.

I roughed in the flower/vase shape
and darkened the background.

Obviously I forgot to take pictures of a bunch of stages,
but you can see that I've added details to the
flowers and jar, and the window shape is emerging.
