She Owned her Curves

I wanted to convey confidence in feminine curves with this painting. We all come in such an amazing variety of sizes and shapes, all so beautiful. When I meet a woman who loves her body in all of its curvy glory, my heart sings. Let's own our curves, ladies!

In Her Own Skin

When I started this painting I sketched her body with charcoal and then went over it with gesso creating a soft gray outline. I looked at her for quite a while and couldn't help but think just how beautiful the female form is...in all its shapes and sizes. I go walking on the trails quite regularly and I marvel at all the beauty I'm witness to. I love how we are all so amazing no matter our form. I scribed my thoughts on this subject across her body and I truly felt altered. I considered having this be her finished stage, but my vision of what I'd originally set out to do kept me going and I'm so glad it did.

Comfortable in her Skin

This is my latest project for the fabulous art class I'm taking. I love how this class continues to push me out of my comfort zone, though this lovely lady is clearly comfortable in her skin. And just in case you're wondering, the hands and feet were left off intentionally. I figure that'll be part of a future lesson that will surely continue to push me in delightful directions.

And, speaking of being out of my comfort zone, today was the first of four days of an open studio tour that Dave and I are part of. I'm not a particularly social person so this was a bit nervous making, but it was so amazing and wonderful. I had at least a hundred pieces of art displayed or in files and Dave had a bunch of photos, and we had folks streaming in and out all day. What a lovely day of talking about and sharing our art. And some wonderful sales, too! Thank you to all of you who support our art!
