Grandmother's Hat

Lately I've had wonderful friends give me inspiration for paintings. It's pure bliss for me. Particularly because everyone who has asked just wants me to do my own interpretation of whatever their idea is. So lucky, lucky me!

I love that this piece is about cherishing something that belonged to someone special. It's about how a thing can become precious merely by association. My mom recently gave me a small box of my grandmother's jewelry. And when I wear a piece I feel so close to both of them.

Links to the past...so wonderful!

Stick a Fork in It

And by "it" I mean my husband.

Here's how it goes when we're out to eat and we actually get a dessert to share after the meal.

Me:  "I only want one bite."

Dave:  "Sure, 'only one bite'."

I take my fork and pull off the teeniest, tiniest, what can only be called a mere taste morsel.  Then after I decide I do, in fact, like it, I take my fork and reach toward the tiny cake plate...and Dave pulls the plate just out of my reach.  And then I stab him in the chest with my empty fork.  OK, perhaps "lightly poke" is the more appropriate term.

This happens over and over and over again.  And the amazing thing is, David still manages to eat pretty much the entire piece of the cake whilst steadfastly protecting his treasured treat.

Lucky for us he's just as protective of his family (excepting of our sweet tooth appetites, that is).

It's all in a Name

So I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes.  Well, a lot, I suppose.  It's been cold here lately and I somehow managed to misplace my gloves.  I couldn't help but think that my dad always knew where his gloves were.  Always.  Of course they were in that compartment in his car, right in front of the passenger seat.

And, I kid you not, I finally realized why that compartment is called a glove box.

And, yup, now I've got some gloves in there.
