Best Friends

It's always such an honor to create a commissioned piece. I adore these two friends. Makes me think of this quote.

"Whoever said that diamonds are a girl's best friend never owned a dog."

I feel like I'm that girl...all grown up...and I even have my hair dyed bright orange right now!

Fluffy

I was commissioned to paint this lovely creature. What fun! And what an honor! Now I want to do a lot more pet portraits.

Grandson with Rainbrella - Rebooted - Part 2

Happy to report that I've had a crazy bug free day...so far. But my precious chicken, Phyllis, did go a tad crazy. We had our grill out in the middle of our deck because Dave and the little guy grilled steaks last night. (Not me, of course. I had mushrooms.) Phyllis had what she thought was a great idea and jumped right in the grill. I'm sure it looked like a lovely perch and all, but the girl and I need to have a serious talk about what constitutes a good idea and what does not.

Here's the completed "Grandson with Rainbrella " (rebooted). Below are the final few stages before I finished. It was just as much fun to paint this time as it was before!

"Grandson with Rainbrella"
After the background was pretty much finished
I sketched out the boy and his "rainbrella" and began painting.

I filled in the rest of him.

I added details to his clothing, hair, and the "rainbrella".

I'm running a big sale on my paintings through the end of August. Almost everything in my gallery is 60% off. I'm only keeping my most current work (paintings on page 1) at the listed prices. If there's something you'd like, please let me know by message or comment so I can manually adjust the price. Thanks!!! http://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/kali-parsons-3935/artwork

Backyard Bliss

I was out in the backyard. The sun was shining. There was a slight breeze. I'd just hung laundry to dry. Phyllis, my wonder chicken, was being adorable. The universe was clearly sending me a message.

What was that message? Well, to chill out, put on a podcast, and paint, of course!

Targeted

I let our dogs out in the back yard. They love it out there. There's chickens to look at, a chain link fence to see the front yard, and a fabulous deck to jump off of. It's small, but they love it.

But this time they were barking like crazy. And they would. not. stop. So I got up to see what all the ruckus was about and, by golly, there was something in the yard next door. Something unfamiliar. Something threatening. Something downright wrong.

It was the scariest archery target EVER!

Yup, my amazing guard dogs were targeting the target. Bull's eye!

Love my girls....

Objects up Close are Bigger than he Thought they Were

So we've been letting our cats be outside with our chickens lately.  By "with" I just mean they're underneath the same big sky.

Now, our big cat, Pug...well, "It ain't worth the trouble of gettin' my big ol' self over that fence."

Our littler cat, Tommy...well he jumped right over the fence, got right in the middle of the chickens, and "OH, MY GOSH...THEY'RE FREAKIN' PTERODACTYLS!!!"

I think there will be peace amongst our creatures.
