Contemplative - Part 1

I've changed how I'm doing my art and blog as I begin my 5th year as an artist. Read all about that here if you missed yesterday's post.

I had some time today to get back to a class I started taking a few weeks ago. We're working in the style of artist, Marie Laurencin. I was able to get through a few layers this morning. And, like I said in Tuesday's post, my art has to go through its "ugly" phases before I get it where I want it to be. It's a process.

First a quick sketch.

Adding some background.

Adding foreground color.
There's a lot I need to work on tomorrow. Thankfully I've learned to not beat myself up during the awkward phases of my paintings. And now for the remainder of today I'll plow through my "to do" list which includes making cookies and sewing patches on my husband's pants. Very soon his pants will all be more patch than pants. Love that he grooves on that style!

Blue on Blue

I did some jean patching today. It's the sort of thing that's in my sewing skill set.

Dave loves his jeans. He loves them so much that he's rarely, if ever, willing to part with them. So when his beloved jeans get a hole in them, well, I patch 'em. And patch 'em. And patch 'em. One of the jeans is pretty new on the wear scene and it now only sports one patch. Another has two. But the current granddaddy has eight patches. Eight! And those patches are all different shades of blue. And those jeans are my husband's favorite.

And I love this about him.

Backyard Bliss

I was out in the backyard. The sun was shining. There was a slight breeze. I'd just hung laundry to dry. Phyllis, my wonder chicken, was being adorable. The universe was clearly sending me a message.

What was that message? Well, to chill out, put on a podcast, and paint, of course!

Backyard bliss....
