Light Broke Through at the Edges of her Wounds

I'm aware lately that so many that inhabit this beautiful planet of ours are wounded in some way. Our stories share similarities, though no two are alike. I think we all must consider being more tender with others as well as ourselves so we may allow the light to break through at the edges of our wounds.

Wounded

I was inspired by one of my wonderful new Pantsuit Nation friends to create a companion piece to my painting, "Your heart knows the way. Run in that direction". So I created a piece reflecting my experience and the experience of many others since the election. I started by scribing my thoughts about the election results, my sadness and my hopes. I crumpled the sheets of paper and lit parts of it on fire. I set those thoughts free to go wherever they needed to go. The remaining bits of paper became the background of my piece. I painted the burned holes red to reflect the wounding that so, so many have felt, their safety and well being now feeling threatened.

I'm thankful that I'm surrounded by so many people who, while acknowledging the negative direction that this election may represent, also see the positive that is coming from it as well. The stirring of activism, the connecting with strangers that might not have ever happened otherwise.

I'm going to have prints of this painting available here and will donate $5 per sale to the ACLU. The original may be purchased at the link below the picture.

Most of my paintings are for sale and I welcome commissions.

No Shave November 3 - American Cancer Society Fundraiser

Sometimes I think I'm quite the tough old middle-aged broad.  Here's what I can do.

I can be texted a photo of my kid's latest injury...a lovely bloody gash down his shin "I think it goes all the way to my bone"...and never miss a beat whilst eating my potato and chick pea soup.

That, and I can also watch an episode of "The Walking Dead" with no eating hesitation.

Yup, tough.  I have my kids to thank me for that.

Again, I'll donate the sales of these bearded wonders to the American Cancer Society in memory of my wonderful and totally not bearded, yet cool as all get out, Nana.

Hot Schnoz

I made a mistake today.  OK, it all starts with the fact that I love pickled jalepeños.  I mean I love them!  If they can even remotely go with a meal, I put 'em on my plate.  Yum!

Well today I was eating about a forth of a jar of these delicious little darlings.  I spilled a bit of juice on the table and, being the super tidy person I pretend to be, I wiped it up right quick with my tie dyed cloth napkin.

So all find and dandy...until I'm walking to the laundry room with said napkin and I decide to blow my nose.  Yup, got jalepeño juice all up in my nasal business.  I do believe smoke poured out of my mouth, nose and ears.

But, hey, a little smoke out ears ain't gonna stop this jalepeño lovin' girl.  No way!
