Celebrating the Start of my 7th Year of Painting!

The 17th of June will mark the beginning of my 7th year of painting! What incredibly joy this has brought to my life! I'm so appreciative of all of my friends for traveling with me on this journey...from basic stick figure drawings in 2011 to paintings that actually look like what I'm intending and abstracts that delight me to no end. You've supported me with "likes" and comments and so much love along the way. To celebrate I'm going to create an album of my work over time and have them available for 70% off of my posted prices (shipping rates will still apply). Please let me know if you're interested in any of them. I'll also be offering some freebies (that's always my favorite!). xoxoxo, friends!

I'll be adding new paintings throughout the week!!

Changed Along the Way

Sometimes things don't end up as you intended. They alter and morph along the way. This piece started as a loose interpretation of Billie Holiday and about halfway through it was clear that the subject of my painting had decided to go another direction entirely. I set aside my picture of Billie Holiday and let the portrait be my guide...and I ended up with a young lad. Glad he pushed himself to the front of the canvas!

The Stuff of Daydreams

As part of this amazing class I'm taking, Dancing with Your Dreams (lesson by Kristen Powers), I created a small piece about my favorite stuff of daydreams. This was super exciting for me because while I mostly remember my daydreams, I hardly ever remember my night dreams.

And what's awesome about what I daydream about is that when I'm actually doing the things I daydream about I'm at my peak of daydreaming. A lovely circle of daydreamness.

Fabulous daydream stuff...

Christmas All Year Long

We still have all of our holiday decorations up. Not that that's a huge deal as all we put up were two strands of lights that I tacked to our walls in a whimsical way. It's not like one year when I was a kid and our Christmas tree stayed up ALL YEAR LONG when my brother and I refused to help my mom put it away. Now a Christmas tree in August...that's a fun thing to explain to your friends when they show up for a summertime slumber party.

Anyway, I think I might just "pull a mom" and leave the lights up all year long. Not because no one will help take them down, no, nothing like that. I think I'll just leave them up because every time I look at them I feel all happy inside.

Yup, this might be the year my kids remember Christmas happening all year long.

The Hallway Project

I've started something new.  Something I've been wanting to do for a while now but for some reason never just jumped in.  But today was the day.  I chose my paints.  I chose my brush.  I threw a towel on the floor in the hallway.  And then I painted a flower on the wall.

So here's my plan.  You all know how I like to do a painting a day, right?  Well, some days the painting will be an addition to our hallway wall.  Some days I'll paint something I'd love to sell or give away.

I'm super excited and invite you to come along with me on this adventure!

Magic Happens

One of my paintings was sold in an auction to benefit the school where I work.  The other day I found out which wonderful family had bought it and it made my day because I knew this family.  Then a day later I was walking my dog and I ran in to the lovely mom in this family.  And she told me that my painting was now hanging in her older daughter's room.  And I had worked with this wonder girl when she was in kindergarten.  And then I saw this sweet girl today and told her how happy I was that my painting was hanging in her room.  And she beamed with pure light, happiness, and magic.

And, and, and!!!

...and that is what I love most about painting.
