Love and Joy

When I was walking to work last week I spied a few pieces of wood in a dumpster. They were the sawed off end pieces from a construction job. I grabbed three, stuck them in my backpack, and figured I'd decide what to do with them later. Since I'm trying to reduce the number of art canvas/paper/surfaces that I purchase and, instead, use items I find and give them a new life, this was a wonderful discovery.

These are the three pieces of wood I picked up.

They are crying out to be beautified!!

The first one I've finished is 5.5"x5.5"x1.5". Below are photos of all the sides. "Love" on one side and "Joy" on the other. It can be turned around depending on your mood. 😃

In today's mail I received an envelope asking for a donation. I donate to a number of charities already so I recycled everything that was recyclable. That left only this magnet. What to do...what to do....

 Well, I couldn't bear to toss it in the trash, 

so I decided I'd give it a fabulous new life with a coat of paint. Or two!

Sometimes Love is Messy

Sometimes love is messy. 

That's part of its charm, right?

I adore using small canvases as my pallets when I paint. They get all lumpy, bumpy, fabulous and then I paint something on top of all that "mess". With this canvas the word "love" was there for quite a while. I'd used my pallet to make sure my India ink was flowing from my brush and had written with it. So when I decided to turn the pallet into a painting, the word "love" and all that "messiness" spoke to me.
