Be the Change

"Be the change that you wish to see in this world."
-Mahatma Gandhi

We all have ways that we choose to support positive change in this world of ours. My way, I've decided, is through my art. I absolutely want to be politically active but I've found that making phone calls, writing letters to the editor, showing up at a congressperson's office, etc. is not a fit for me. But selling my art as part of fundraising efforts...well...this is something that I can do, have done, and will continue to do.

So...through October 20th I will be donating 50% of my original art sales to the Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL), Texas 21 Chapter. More information may be found here. Let's make the climate great again!

Meow!

I had the best time with girlfriends Saturday night. We cut up old sweaters and made cozy cat hats. Here are mine! Perfect for wearing at the march at the Capitol if I decide to go...sometimes peaceful rebellion comes in the form of a homemade hat. "Meow!"

Peaceful

Peaceful...that sums up how I've felt throughout this holiday season.

We've had our years of the big decorated tree in the corner of the living room, the abundance of gifts underneath, the staying up way past my bedtime to do Santa duties, the being woken by wee ones mere hours after I'd finally gone to sleep, and the blissful exhaustion that all of that was.

But now that our kids are big (16 and 19) the holidays are delightfully easy going and low key. We had no tree, only lights thumb tacked to the walls in a delightfully whimsical way. We purchased absolutely no gifts for one another (just transferred money to the kids' bank accounts). We all went to bed when our own beds called to us. The teenagers slept till close till noon. And we were all well rested.

I treasure both experiences, but I gotta give peaceful the win.

List Happy

I love lists!

I'm a list girl, heart and soul.  I have a "to do" list on my fridge.  I have a "to do" list on my desk at work.  I keep a running shopping list for five different stores on my phone.  That last one makes me feel super high tech.

And what I love even more than the actual lists is the crossing off part.  Just this afternoon I was loving this process...out loud.

Me:  "I made the call about the blender.  I reconciled the checking account.  I cut the pineapple.  I finished making the tea.  I made the rice.  I'm exercising right now."

Dave:  "You're talking out loud."

Hmmmm...me thinks he wants me to add "talking out loud" to my daily "to do" list.  Can do!

Oh, and now I can cross off "write blog".  Woo hoo!  This girl is pro-duc-tive!
