Nothing is Beyond our Reach

"Once we accept our limits, we move beyond them.
-Albert Einstein

I couldn't help myself. There's simply so much to love and adore about giraffes.

Their Watchful Eyes

"There's beauty all around our paths,
if but our watchful eyes can trace it midst
familiar things, and through their lowly guise."

Into the Woods

My dad, my little guy, and I went to a quadcopter class today. The two of them know a lot as they fly one fairly often. I know just the teeniest tad as I usually just chauffeur them around to the flying locations, though I'd piloted briefly a couple of times.

Well, today before they let us fly they mentioned that they knew that most of us were just learning and crashes might happen. Oh, and that trees tend to not move out of the way if your quadcopter is heading right at them. Truth.

After all the safety and info talk I finally worked with an actual instructor who took me through the process of turning it on, calibrating the compass, getting it up in the air, doing a few jazzy things like making it fly in a circle shape, and then landing.

And while the woods were right there and I could tell that the quadcopter gods were seriously thinking of sending me into its depths, my instructor only had to say something once.

"Don't forget about the pole with the transformer you're heading towards!"

I didn't hit it, happily, and good times were had by all.

Trio

I took a lovely nap this afternoon. I love a weekend nap!

When I got into bed our kitten, Tommy, was there. I pulled him under the covers, lay his head on my shoulder, and he and I blissfully slept. I stirred at some point, opened my eyes and saw our big dog, Hazel, beside us and I drifted back to sleep. My little guy came in the room and got on my bed to snuggle with Hazel and I saw that at some point our old cat, Pug, had joined the napping party.

I love my fuzzy sleep Trio!

Rockin' Old Lady

I saw the cutest thing ever today.

I was driving through my parents' neighborhood today and there was an old woman walking on the sidewalk.  She was shuffling along in what looked like the classic old lady SAS shoes.  Her white socks were scrunched at her ankles.  Her long tiered baggy jean skirt swayed just a bit to and just a bit fro.  Her floral blouse was rockin' every color of the rainbow.  And her vest hugged her rounded sides.

Me:  "Aw, check her out.  She's slow, but she keeps on truckin'."

Little guy as we passed her:  "She's slow because she's texting, mom."

Me:  "Wow!  She walks faster than I do when I'm texting."

So, rock on technologically awesome little old lady!!  Rock on!

Laughing Together

I try to not laugh directly at my kids.  I prefer to laugh with them.  But sometimes I laugh at them knowing full well that someday they'll think it's funny, too.  And that's OK, right?

So the other day the little guy and I were at a store in the shaving section.  His face had been dry and he wanted some lotion.  But he didn't want lotion that smelled like flowers.  Nope.  He wanted to smell like, well, a man.

He picked up one, unscrewed the lid, gave it a tiny squeeze, and took a sniff.  Not to his liking.  He picked another one up, unscrewed the lid, gave it a tiny squeeze, and BLUUUURP!  A glob of lotion splooshed out and went right up his nose.  Really not to his liking.

"I think the first one will do," as he used his sleeve to soak up the mess.

And I laughed "with" him...future tense, that is.
