Moonlight Dream

OK, it's quite possible that I'm not really that great at going all the way through to the end with multiple day challenges. I had intended to go to 15 days, but here I am at day 8 and I think this painting is finished. I considered pushing through, but I'm rather fond of this composition so I choose to stop and let it be. I'm super excited to start another. It's such fun revisiting a piece day after day.

And the price of this painting was calculated following the method established in previous posts about this challenge.

Silence

This morning as I drove through our still pitch black neighborhood I spied a dog. An amazing dog. Only it wasn't an ordinary dog at all.  It was a coyote.  And it was simply magnificent.  The kid and I followed it for a bit in silent awe until it dodged up a driveway, disappeared, and we were left staring at where it had been.

I love that my kid understands the value of silence.

Tea Time

I sat at a coffee shop sipping my tea.  Dave had a muffin and coffee.  We played a game of gin rummy.  It was perfect.

And then it got just a bit more perfect.  A wee little sparrow landed right at our feet, looked up, and...well...begged.  In an oh, so cute kind of way.  I tossed it a few of Dave's muffin crumbs and it happily hopped about retrieving them.  I'm pretty sure it smiled and winked its thanks.

Lovely, lovely....

Channeling George Jetson

I'm super uptight about looking at my phone while I'm supposed to be doing something else.  I'd never look at it while driving.  Never!  I can just barely look at it while I'm walking.  And "barely" is an exaggeration.  But for some reason today at the gym I absentmindedly stepped onto a treadmill while looking at my phone.  I started the treadmill moving while looking at my phone.  I set the speed to the level that I usually set the incline.  While looking at my phone.

And I almost wiped out like George Jetson...while looking at my phone.

Check!  Lesson learned.

Together

My kid gets to live in poverty for the next couple of days...and I'm so excited!  I know, sounds odd, but I wish all kids in our country could experience something like this.  He's a couple states away experiencing a simulation (a very accurate one, I hear) of a village somewhere on this planet of ours the subsists on far, far less than you and I.

He may be sleeping in a hut tonight in the below-freezing temps.  He may be outside.  He may only consume a teeny, tiny serving of grain for each of his meals.  He may care for animals and drink the milk they produce.  He may toil for hours until he blisters his hands.  He will feel hunger and cold.  And he will definitely come back home later this week with a new perspective that he'll likely reflect upon for many years to come.

And while I'm super curious about what he's doing at this very moment, I'm grateful that he absolutely, positively cannot text me to let me know...as cell phones are not permitted.

Will he come back and play video games a little less?  Doubtful.  Will he spend less time staring at his phone?  Highly unlikely.  Will he have an awareness that will reside in his mind forever that we're all together on this planet of ours, so very similar in spite of the fact that we find ourselves in very different circumstances?  I'm pretty darn sure.

Does this haircut make my butt look fat?

Our big puppy, Hazel, is perfect in every way.  Well, except for the fact that she sheds.  Oh, and that she has a list of phobias about a mile wide.  The phobias?  Don't bug us a bit.  They rather crack us up.  Seriously...afraid of moving leaves, Hazel?  The shedding?  Can't stand it.  We find mini-Hazels all about the house...masses of black hair in the corners, under the tables, rolling across the floor like tumble weeds...not attractive.

Anyway, It was time to give our Hazel a hair cut.  (Did I mention she's clippers phobic?)  I started with her back.  It's the easiest and makes me feel good because I can get a lot done quickly.  Then I moved to her legs.  She's not a fan.  I'm not a fan.  We did not have a good time.  Next chest.  Then neck.  Then the holy grail of awfulness...her head.

And then I declared that I was done.  Finished.  The rest would be for Dave to do.  When?  I dunno.  Ever?  I did not care.  I was done.

I released Hazel to go in the room where everyone else was hanging out.  She looked like a mythical faun...my sweet girl in puffy Russian-esque fur pants.

Dave:  "Wow...Does this haircut make my butt look fat?"

Totally...but don't tell Hazel.  She's cruising around the house shedding half as much as she did the day before, blissfully clueless.

So much China...

...and so little interest in ever, ever using it.

We've been redoing our kitchen and it's posed some particular challenges along the way.  The basics, like no water or sink for a few days, cupboard contents all over the kitchen table, and then putting everything back.  Well, almost everything.  You see, I made a deal with myself as I pulled all the junk stuff essentials out.  I would only put back what we use...or, at the very least, love.

It's been super easy with most things and just a quick trip with items to the curb and soon some happy neighbor who does think they'll use and/or love them takes them home.

Trouble is, it gets complicated when it comes to the set of china we received for our wedding.  We never ever use it.  It's simply too much trouble, all that getting it down from the top shelf, and then having to hand wash it.  Plus, we're hardly fancy folk.

So, what to do, what to do...we don't use it or love it.  I will say I like it and think it's pretty, just not enough to make up for the trouble of using it.

Perhaps china is something that was precious only to previous generations, perhaps I'm crazy...or lazy.

Dunno...but the one thing I do know is that it somehow found its way back to the tip top of the cabinets, so don't go and scour my curb for fine china.  You'll be wasting your time.

Two Years of Whimsy!

I missed it...again!

I'm simply no good at remembering momentous dates.  My own wedding anniversary, birthdays (without facebook I'd be lost), and now my second anniversary of creating something artistic, to completion, each and ever day without exception.  The anniversary was actually earlier this month....

Creating art each day for two amazing years has added such wonder, passion, love, and whimsy to my world.  My drawing and painting takes me to the most fantastic places and lets me meet the most magical creatures.

Thank you for coming along on this journey of mine!!

This one isn't for sale...it's an idea prompt thingie I created.
