Always in the Background

This piece and the writing were published in Down in the Dirt magazine.

There is a constant chaos in the background of my mind as the beginning of the school year approaches. All the colors and shades of not knowing what is next, of fear, of not being seen and heard. I keep myself busy with painting, reading, writing, exercising, playing piano, dancing, cooking, eating, sleeping, talking with friends, laughing, crying...and the background of my mind seeps into all of it. Sometimes big and sometimes small, but always present.

Inspired

It is an amazing experience welcoming folks into our home studio to see our work. I'm feeling incredibly inspired by all of the wonderful conversations I've had with both friends and new acquaintances. Throughout the day yesterday during moments between visitors I worked on this piece. I set out to create something using only my little scraper tool. I love an art challenge!

Ganesh

Ganesh...master of wisdom and intellect.
I'm opening space in our world for this presence.

Empathy Feather

I love painting feathers. When I first started on this art adventure almost five years ago, flowers and feathers were my "go to" subject. And while I'd taken a whimsical approach to many of my flowers, I hadn't gone there with feathers. Love, love, love getting my whimsy on!

A Trio of Tulips - Part 2

This morning I had to come to a full stop in my car while a teenage squirrel figured out what it was going to do. It was in the middle of the road crouched over a horse apple, embracing it with its front legs and jaws locked on it. And it was not going to scamper off without its enormous prize. Nope. No way. So of course I stopped. And that little squirrel slowly but surely picked the horse apple up by tilting its head waaaaaaay back, and did the funniest waddle to the side of the road. You go, little squirrel! Bon appétit!

I finished my trio of tulips. I loved doing it so much that I'm going to do another one. A much bigger one! I picked up a 36"x36" canvas and will start on it tomorrow. Here is the finished painting and then a few stages leading up to it.

"A Trio of Tulips"

I went over the lines of the tulips and added some
white marks.

I added more color to the tulips and made even more
white marks. I love how I can still see just the tiniest
bits of the paint from how the canvas was
when I started on this.
