Majestic - Part 3

Late yesterday when I took my dog, Hazel, for a walk, we came upon a Speedo in the sidewalk. Nothing else. Just a Speedo. I remembered my commitment to pick up the snuff can and dispose of it properly, but I neither wanted to pick up a Speedo nor did I have any idea of what the proper disposal of such a thing would be.

And by the way, Google is of no help with this quandary. I suppose I'll see if it's still there tonight. Perhaps something will come to me.

I finished "Majestic". What an honor it was to paint this. I hope it makes a chunk of money to support elephants when it's auctioned off. Elephants are definitely on my "paint more of this" list.

Here's the completed painting and final stages below.

I filled in more of the background with varying greens.

I added branches, some flowers, and more grass.

Majestic - Part 2

This morning I made a quick trip to the grocery store. I use my phone as my shopping list and I orally dictate the things I need to pick up. Well, today when I got to the store and was going through my list I saw, "inch a lot of sauce". I stood there for a minute sure that there was something I absolutely needed to get, but that that was not it.

And then I got it..."enchilada sauce"!

Whew! Lunch was saved!

I'm continued working on my elephant painting. I'm not quite done yet. I want to add details to the background (some branches and such) and the more I look at the elephant I'm quite sure the trunk isn't long enough. And, gosh, since I'm totally into flowers these days the foreground simply must have a few here and there.

Here's where I am at this point.

I added lighter shades of gray.

And then I went back in with black. I also
added details to the trunk and gave her eyes.

I painted her tusks (this elephant's tusks
have been trimmed) and added grass.

I moved her eye to the right and began
widening her face.

I widened her face even more and added a couple of
colors of green to the background.

Majestic - Part 1

Dave and I have been super busy today getting ready for our reception tonight (Saturday) at the Alternative Space Gallery where I have paintings hung, and he and my mom have photos hung. I hope you can join us from 6 till 8 tonight! If not, the exhibit will remain there until the end of August.

I've only gotten a tiny bit of painting done on a new piece that's going to be auctioned to benefit elephants. I'll be sure to post all the details when I have them.

Here's what I've done so far.

I started with a green background and the
basic lines of some trees.

I added the basic shape of an elephant walking
toward me and some dark areas on the ground.
I'm super excited to continue working on this piece. I've been wanting to paint an elephant for a while so when I was asked I was absolutely thrilled!

Does it Count if it was an Accident?

Last night I had a bite, only one bite, of the most amazing pecan pie I've ever had.  The flavors rolled around in my mouth and took me to the edge of dizzy bliss.  Oh, my gosh, it was good.  "What could be so different about this pecan pie that makes it so amazing?" I thought to myself.

And then I realized what it was.

It was not your run of the mill pecan pie.  Nope.  It was a chocolate pecan pie.  Gasp!

The thing is, I've been caffeine free for over a year now.  No coffee.  No tea (herbal is fine, of course).  And no...absolutely no...chocolate.

My thinking is that it definitely didn't count as breaking my commitment as it was totally accidental.  It's not like the pie was marked on the potluck table.  I mean, would you say an alcoholic fell off the wagon if they accidentally consumed a bite of rum cake?

I figure I'm good.  But, dang, I officially miss chocolate!

Forgetful? Crazy? Nope.

I have the feeling my family thinks I've entered "crazy old lady" status.  At least "forgetful old lady".  The thing is I seem to have a habit of asking for the same info over and over.  Things like, "Do you have wrestling practice tomorrow?" "Is karate happening tonight?" "Who did you say is coming over?"  And it's actually not that I don't remember, really it's not.  And I seriously doubt I'm crazy.  I'm simply distracted by all the stuff I'm up to...drawing, painting, and writing...oh, my!

In the car today I was told, "You need to not ask something unless you're absolutely, positively sure that you've never asked it before."  Um, if I had any inkling that I'd asked it before I wouldn't have asked it again.

So I'm self diagnosing myself as having "distracted old lady" status.  My family will be so relieved that I'm not crazy or forgetful.

Tension vs. Attention...We have a winner!

I got to climb one of those rock walls the other day.  It was at least thirty feet high...seemed like a hundred.  My kid set me up with the harness, hooked me up, and said, "Go!"

"Um..."  I looked up and there was a big section that jutted out that I'd have to figure out how to manage.

I unhooked myself, went over to the attendant guy.  "I'm new at this, which spot do you recommend?"  He took me to another wall that was flat.  Aside from all the grab nubbins, of course.  I could either be hooked up to a tension rope or one that he'd hold manually.  I went for tension because my gut told me that "tension" wins out over "expecting a human to pay attention" every time.

So up I went.  Along the way I noted that all the nubbins on this particular wall were elephant trunks and other such kid friendly grabs.  Yup, I'd been placed in the child section.  But I rocked that child wall all the way to the top.  And because I was feeling particularly gutsy I took that leap of faith, jumping out into the air, and floated my way down.

And, oh yes I did play "We are the Champions" on my iPod...and I totally meant me.

This painting started as a bunch of blobs.  As I stared at the "blobs" two animals jumped out at me...so I did my part and brought them to the front.  Pretty sure they're happy I did.

Practically Scared of my own Shadow

I scare easily.  My whole family knows.  They used to follow me around and try to scare me all the time.  It was awful...I got all twitchy and stuff.  Anyway, they've stopped...at least for now.  But it turns out I don't even need my family to scare me.  I don't even need other people at all.  Turns out I just need my own goofy self.

So, here's what happened.  This morning I was going to run our little robot vacuum cleaner so it could do a mediocre job of vacuuming while I was gone.  I found a couple of kitten rattle ball toys on the floor, so I put them on the stool in the bathroom to keep them out of the way, and shut the door.  "Click" the vacuum started, and I left.

Well, eight hours or so later I got home.  I decided to do a little bit of way neglected laundry.  I got a bin, went into the bathroom to check for dirty towels, found one on the stool, picked it up, something rattled.  "A FREAKIN' RATTLESNAKE'S IN HERE!!!!" I thought.  I jumped. I shrieked.  I saw the two little rattle balls.  I felt silly.

Sigh...Halloween came a day early for this wimpy girl (who happens to have slightly cleaner floors now).
