New Favorite Activity

It's official.  I have a new favorite activity.

1st - Go through a haunted house enough times to memorize everything and no longer be scared of anything.

2nd - Follow people through the haunted house that look like they're likely to be screamers.

3rd - Maybe, just maybe, scare them at just the right time.

Good times!

Boo!

Up, Down, and All Around

I generally like to blog about things that make my day, but today I'm feeling particularly generous, so I'm blogging about something that made my kid's day...though decidedly not my own.

Late last night I was letting one of our dogs out to do her business.

Me:  "Scout, come on back!"

And she ignored me.  She does that.  I'm convinced that it's selective hearing.  But while waited for just a moment before deciding to close the door, a BIG cockroach scurried in.  Our kitten, Tommy, who is an amazing cockroach killer batted it...and it disappeared.  Tommy and I looked up.  We looked down.  We looked all around.  And then I felt something in my hair.

Me:  "Aaaaaaaaaaaa!!!"

I swatted it out of my hair, Tommy pounced on it, and that cockroach met its maker.

Then Scout showed up at the door ready to come in.

And then I realized that even though I'd screamed, no one had bothered to come check up on me.  So I went to the kid's room.

Little guy:  "Yeah, I heard you scream and wondered why.  And that's so awesome about the cockroach!"

I love making someone else's day!

Like a Little Girl

Things don't usually make me scream.  I can usually take it.  Snakes, bugs, whatever.  But today I screamed...twice.  And I'm convinced that it's because "they" had the element of surprise.

The thing is, Dave's been replacing all the exterior walls of our backyard shed.  The old wood had rotted and critters were taking over.

So my job was to go through a box of books that had been sitting in the shed for many years.  They were obviously destroyed, but there was no evidence of who the destroyers had been until...

TWO COCKROACHES RAN OVER THE TOP OF MY HAND!!!
(That would be scream number one.)

My next job was clearing off a shelf that had a bunch of Dave's old glider stuff on it.  I picked up a tube of wrapped something, managed to tip it a bit...

AND A TON OF BIG ANTS AND LARVAE FELL OUT OF THE TUBE...AND LANDED ON MY SANDALED FOOT!!!
(That would be scream number two.)

...and now I'm not sure if I'll be able to sleep tonight.
