Thankful for my Muse

As I was wrapping up my 6th year of painting and starting my 7th, I thought of my muse in this wonderful art adventure I'm on. Feelings of bliss, angst, being driven, sadness, despair, triumph, compassion, calm, joy, love.... I think my painting is all about embracing those feelings and getting them out. It's all about the process. I've been asked if it's hard to let go of my work when they go to other homes and with the exception of about five pieces (all featuring my family/pets and one with a quote that particularly speaks my truth), the answer is "no". The process feeds my soul and I'm ever thankful for my muse, all those feelings, that need not be labeled good or bad, positive or negative.

This is the piece I completed on the 16th of June, the last day of my 6th year of painting.

"Thankful for my Muse"

And then over the weekend our family went to a tie dye party!

The Kid's got Nerve, I Say

Just the big guy is hanging out at the house tonight.  We hadn't seen him all evening, though the "boom, boom" base rang loud and clear from his room.  So...when he finally got thirsty enough to bless us with his presence, well....

Me: "Hi, snoopy-poo!"

Dave:  "Schnickerdoodle!"

Me:  "Love bunny!"

Dave:  "Punkinater!"

Me:  "Cutie boo-boo!"

And the kid totally ignored us.  The nerve!

Baubles and Beads

This past week my special education team has had a fabulous fundraiser.  Every year we collect a ton of donated used jewelry and then sell it for hardly anything and kiddos can purchase a little something for their moms (or anyone else) on Mother's Day.  I say "a little something" but it's often a BIG something.  I will forever be in awe of what kids think will be absolutely beautiful on their moms.

What did my own children buy for me at this same sale many years ago?  Well, my little guy thought anything with magnetic clasps were the absolute coolest, so I received a number of those.  My big guy was all about the ocean...clam shell earrings, puka shell necklaces.  And I absolutely loved them all.

And I'm betting come Sunday a lot of moms in the neighborhood will be sporting some fabulous "new" bling.  I love it!

Officially "Vintage"

Spent a lovely day celebrating birthdays with my mom today.  We ate good grub and then we went shopping at a vintage store.  I went through rack after rack finding tons of amazing things that were way too high maintenance for little old me (i.e. required dry cleaning and/or ironing), but happily, I did find a few must-haves.  At one point we were chatting it up with one of the owners and she mentioned that they're getting stuff from the 80s and earlier because they are a "vintage" store, after all.

Um...80s, eh?  So the clothes I wore in high school are now considered "vintage"?  What?  And then I looked at my mom and thought, "No, clothes from when she was in high school are 'vintage'.  That's how it's always been."  But I kept my pursed "vintage" mouth shut and figured that, hey, I've got some stuff in my closet that's officially worth something.

Perfect Storm of Motivation

I'm always...ALWAYS...inviting my family to go with me when I go running or walking with our dogs.  I pretty much get a universal "No," but the other day presented itself with the perfect storm of motivation.

Me:  "Want to go running with me tonight?  I'll take you by a house where bunnies run wild and free."

Little guy:  "OK, this time.  I need to get in shape for wrestling."

So, perfect!

bunnies + wrestling = running buddy

And so as we ran and walked and ran and walked (that's how I roll), we weaved around the neighborhood, over bridges, through the backstreets, and up and down hills.  All the while I was doing my best to remember exactly where I had seen those cute little bunnies.  As an expert at "fake it till you make it" I meandered my way till I thought things looked familiar and then we were there.  And there was one lone bunny sitting in the front yard.  And my kid was thrilled.

...and so was I.
