Pink and Orange

I ran a few errands over the weekend. I like to do it early to avoid people. Don't get me wrong. I love people. I just prefer them in fewer numbers.

When I got home I told Dave about how golly gosh darn productive I'd been.

Dave: "Oh, great. Did you wear that?"

Me: "Um, yes."

I went to the mirror to see just what he may have been referring to. Hot pink shirt...check! Bright orange hoodie...check!

Me: "Well, come to think of it I had an oddly large number of store employees checking on me to see if I was OK."

So perhaps they were worried about the crazy brightly colored outfit lady, perhaps they were bored, perhaps they were just super nice...and, well, perhaps they all just wanted to talk to someone with as much color sense as I clearly have!

I stand by my wardrobe decision. Pink and orange are fabulous!

Waiting Blissfully

I took my little guy and my niece to an ice skating rink the other day. I didn't skate because, well, basically I'm a wimp. I don't like to be cold. Ice skates make my feet hurt. And most of all, I don't like to fall on really hard surfaces (which always happens).

But those young'uns had a blast. And while they skated seemingly endless ovals, I blissfully waited, watched, and videotaped. Good times were had by all.

I drew this piece back in October when I was visiting my brother's family and I accidentally left this and one more drawing. My adorable niece found them and when they came last week they brought them. It was so much fun painting it after all this time!

Going just a Tad Punk

The big guy's car is out of commission, so I've offered to let him borrow my car since I can pretty much just walk or ride my bike anywhere I'd like to go.  It's been hard on the big guy, though.

You see, he has a sweet little sports car, a lovely thing that reeks of power and cool.  Me?  Well, I have a sweet little Prius, a sweet thing that reeks of practicality.

Big guy:  "No, mom.  I don't want to be seen driving to school in a Prius."

But he's been using it frequently anyway because he does need to get from here to there.  Thing is, I've noticed that he's made one small adaptation to my car.  And I'm not counting the fact that he scoots the seat all the way back so his tall, lanky self can fit.  No, it's that he removes the sweet little origami crane that I have hanging from my rear view mirror and puts it in the cup holder.

Me:  "Hey, you keep taking my crane off when you use my car."

Big guy:  "Yeah, mom, it's bad enough that I have to drive around in a Prius with an 'Oops, I went punk' sticker on it.  I am not driving around with that crane, too."

It's OK, I can rehang an origami crane with the best of them.  And, hey, it's good for the big guy to go just a tad punk.

The Sneeze that Ended the Silence

Last night I got home from walking our dogs.  It was almost dark out.  Dave was gone.  Both boys were in their rooms with their doors shut.  It was peaceful bliss as I tip-toed around, wanting to keep the silence I so cherished around as long as possible.

I quietly got some water.  I quietly sat at my computer.  I quietly pulled out my work.  I silently began typing.

...and then I sneezed.  "Aaaaachooo!"

Now, I know I'm a girl and all, but I seriously man up when it comes to sneezes.

And I kid you not, within seconds of sneezing, both of my guys came bursting out of their rooms.

Little guy:  "That sounded like food."

Big guy:  "You're home, can I have something to eat?"

Me:  "Grrrrrr...allergies."
