Where I Began

When I first started painting seven years ago my "go to" subject was flowers. All kinds of flowers. They brought me so much joy. And you know what? They still do.

Yellow Rose of Texas 1

I've lived in Texas almost 50 years, and even though her politics make me grouchy at times, I can't help but love this big state of ours. (And, yes, the state being blue...subtle touch, right?...is a dream of mine.)

Stay tuned for more Texas themed art!

We Were One

I woke up in the middle of the night with one thought. "Oh, I'm not well." My tummy was all cranky and I was a tad achy. So what did I do?  Well I stayed in bed until 1 pm today, of course. Did I stay in bed all by myself after Dave got up? Absolutely not!

No, in this house if you want to stay in bed for a nap, for healing, or just sleeping in, you are never, ever alone because you will one hundred percent of the time be joined by one 85 pound dog and two tabby cats. And they will not move, not one little bit, unless you move and they find that they simply must snuggle a bit closer to you.

So the four of us sleepers...we were one. Best medicine ever!

A Little Morning Pleasure and Pain

I got up early this morning and staggered out to the living room...it's how I roll at 6:00 AM on a Saturday.  Hazel, my sweet dog and one of my best friends ever, zoomed by me with great gusto.  And then she proceeded to wag her tail with such happiness and vigor in celebration of the brand new day...only thing was, my right leg was in the path of her happy vigorous tail and as a result of her pure bliss I'm now sporting two bright red tail-shaped welts.

Ah, pleasure and pain...but I do so love that girl's enthusiasm!

Fun is What you Make it

I've officially crossed the line over into nutville.  Yesterday I had to take one of those standardized test things for my teaching certificate.  I was given five hours to complete 150 questions and I was finished in three.  But for those three hours I was ridiculously happy.  While I'm not a fan of the amount of such tests being given to our 3rd through 12th grade students, I , personally, rather enjoy the things.

Perhaps it's because it's the first such test I've had to take in over ten years.  Perhaps it's because I knew I was fine whether I passed it or not.  Perhaps I'm just a whack job.

But enjoy it, I did...even on those questions where I totally thought to myself, "I know nothing about what they have in the question and absolutely none of the four possible answers ring any bells about anything."

And unlike the tests I took a decade ago, which I had to wait a very slow and agonizing two plus weeks to receive my results in the mail, I was given my results this morning via email.  And I got 90% of it correct.

Yup, I dug it...does this girl know how to have a good time or what?!?!

Wonderful Way to Start the Day

What makes a great start to my day?

Texts and a phone call from the district saying that we have a two hour delay for the start of school today.  I dunno why...there's absolutely no precipitation.  But thank you very much!

Then our kitten walks up the length of my body all the way to my face, reaches out, and gently taps me on the nose with his paw.

I swear he's a tiny fairy and he put a little spell on me to go back to sleep.

Bliss...Zzzzzzzzzz....
