Firefly...Shining from Within

I found myself incredibly inspired by an article I read a few weeks ago. It was about a little girl and her mom and seeing that we all have a light that shines from within. Read the article, this mom says it so perfectly and so much better than I could ever hope to.

It got me thinking. We all have that something that we love or something we're passionate about. Or a kindness about us that we share with others. Something that you wouldn't necessarily know about a person, but it's still there, shining from within. I've taken to looking at people and wondering just what their superpower is, what makes them shine. It's shifted how I move through this world. From assuming that everyone is just busy doing their ordinary (perhaps boring) thing to looking at that guy crossing the street and wondering if he's a sculptor. Or that lady in line in front of me and wondering if she loves to dance when she's home alone. Or if that kiddo sitting alone is totally into Legos and has the most amazing structures in their room.

It's much more fun seeing life through firefly lenses.

I released my own inner firefly and let her land on my graffiti wall in my hallway.

Rolling Roly Poly

Sometimes random thoughts...they just show up outa nowhere. Seriously, that's my only explanation for this.

I was just sitting here wondering what happens to a roly poly if it loses the functioning of some of its many, many legs. Well, I thought, of course it would need to have a wheel to replace the troublesome limbs.

And then it would be a rolling roly poly.

Ya, I dunno, I didn't get much sleep last night...but I must admit I'm rather in love with this little dude!

Gone Buggy

Silly me...

I made an agreement with a cockroach.

You see, our kitten likes to "play" with cockroaches.  And by "play" I have to admit I mean "torture". So when I saw this hobbling little big cockroach, I felt a bit bad for it.

Me: "OK, cockroach, here's the deal.  I won't squish you if you stay away from me."

The cockroach slowly hobbled away and I went to the kitchen table to eat my breakfast and check my email.  Everything was fabulous until I caught a glimpse of something big and dark brown on my right sleeve. And I commenced flipping out.

I jumped up.

I swatted with everything I could think of.

I yelled, "This was not what we agreed upon!"

Then I spied the cockroach hobbling, even more than before, into the kitchen. And I put the little fella out of its (and my) misery.

<shudder>

And here is a much cuter bug...

Bee Awesome!

So I've been sporting a fanny pack again.  I rocked one in the early 90s when I was riding my bike everywhere.  Then again during the 00s.  But that fanny pack was big and bulky.  I could fit snacks, a wallet, my chap stick, and keys in there.  It bounced.  It jiggled.  It kind of drove me nuts.

Enter new fanny pack.  Very sleek.  Extremely tiny.  And it holds only my phone and car key.  It's awesome!

Dave (holding my new fanny pack up with a puzzled look on his face):  "What's this?"

Me:  "It's my fanny pack?"

Dave:  "What could possibly fit in it?"

Me:  "My phone fits just right."

Dave:  "You should call it a phoney pack."

Yup, that's my guy!  And you can definitely count on seeing me rockin' my phoney pack!

Walk this Way

I rescue bugs a lot.  If you read this blog, you know it's true.  This morning as I walked on the hike and bike trail around the lake I spied a walking stick in my path.  It had stepped out from a crop of poison ivy and was just frozen there.  So of course I stopped, too.  I had to get that little guy out of danger.  I was on a mission.

I tried picking it up.  Nope.  I tried scooping it up.  Nope.  And then I tried poking its rear.  Yup!  Back into the poison ivy it ran.

My job was done.

Turns Out I DO Take Work Home with Me

So what happens when my kid knocks a new jar of pesto out of the cupboard?  Well, aside from a huge CRASH!!!, I find out that I do take work home with me.  It's not as bad as it sounds.  I'm actually quite disciplined about not taking my work home with me.  But as we're cleaning up the shardy, basily, olive oily, pine nutty, parmesan cheesy mess, my kid says, "You missed a piece of glass over here...oh, wait, it's just glitter.  Must be from your work."

Yup, sure 'nuf.  While I don't bring paperwork home from my job, I absolutely, positively do bring sparkly bits into the house now and then.
