ATX

While I've never been inclined to attend ACL Fest, even though it's only a five minute walk from my house, I'll happily put up with the parking lot that my neighborhood becomes as long as they keep playing the Star Wars theme to open the festival each day.

Here's to fabulous music in ATX!

Little One

When I started this painting I was planning on creating a bird with many more details than I ended up with, but somehow the simplicity of the painting at this stage was super appealing to me. It added to this little one's innocence. I think I may try to have this image put on infant size onesies. :-)

Through October 20th I will be donating 50% of my original art sales to the Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL), Texas 21 Chapter. More information may be found here. Let's make the climate great again!

Eruption

Volcanoes symbolize creativity, rebirth, energy...as well as destruction and violence. As will all things, all people, all experiences, there are at least two sides.

Twin Sisters

This afternoon we took Hazel, our big dog, to meet her sister.  They hadn't seen each other since they were about two months old.  And there's a pretty darn cool, small world story behind all of this.

Dave, as is his style with new family dogs, showed up one evening with the cutest ball of black fur ever (and to be totally honest here, we had talked about getting another dog at some point, just not when).  I was instantly in love, of course, and proceeded to take tons of photos of this sweet little one and put them on facebook.  Not long after that, a friend from high school was posting very similar photos of her new puppy, and she sent me a message wondering where we had gotten ours.

And sure 'nuf, her mother-in-law and my husband had gotten puppies from the exact same litter and those dogs ended up in our homes.

So today my little guy and I drove out to her place to get the girls together.  And they were instant best friends.  Who knows if they remembered each other or not, but they were gleeful to be in each other's presence.

LOVE this small world!!

Walk this Way

I rescue bugs a lot.  If you read this blog, you know it's true.  This morning as I walked on the hike and bike trail around the lake I spied a walking stick in my path.  It had stepped out from a crop of poison ivy and was just frozen there.  So of course I stopped, too.  I had to get that little guy out of danger.  I was on a mission.

I tried picking it up.  Nope.  I tried scooping it up.  Nope.  And then I tried poking its rear.  Yup!  Back into the poison ivy it ran.

My job was done.

Here's Looking at You, Kid

Little guy:  "Ooooow!  I think I just broke my finger."

Now I know I should have run to his aid.  I know I should have felt badly for him.  I know a 'good' mom would have shower him with love and kisses.

What did I do?  Well, I rolled my eyes and turned the other direction.

Why?  You ask?

Well, when your fifteen-year-old has come up with every distraction available to avoid doing homework for about three hours straight, and that has been accompanied by tons of nagging on your part, and then he decides to ride his unicycle through the kitchen and catches his pinky on the pot rack as he flails his arms around....

You get what I'm saying, right?

But I could only do it for a few seconds.  And then I got him a bag of ice and gave him a hug.  After all, I'm not that bad of a mom. And he's an absolutely terrific kid.

Talking to Strangers can be Quite Delicious

It's what our parents all warned us about, but I find it rather delightful.  And, guess what, sometimes it has the nicest consequences.

A month or so ago I was standing in line to check out my groceries.  I could overhear a conversation at the next register.  The cashier was asking the customer how his day was going so far and the customer had a lovely story about volunteering at a school park doing landscaping.  And then he mentioned my school.

So I'm standing there thinking, "I should go tell him I work there and tell him how thankful I was for his kindness."  But then I lost my gumption as I passed him and kept walking out to my car.  Full of regret.  Kicking myself in the shin.

As I put my bags in my car I figured I'd look around to see if I could possibly have a second chance at it.  But no, no sign of him at all.  I hung my head, took my cart to the cart return, turned around, and there he was.  So I went up to that young fella, told him I'd overheard him (stalker, crazy lady that I am), told him my connection, and proceeded to thank him every so much.

And guess what...he was doing the volunteer work as part of his employer's mission to help the community.  And then he gave me a card with a code on it and said when I put the code in, something wonderful would show up in the mail.  And today it did!  I'm three nutritious bars richer, and I feel super warm in my heart.

So go talk to a stranger.  Turns out it can be quite delicious.

If it's wrong to have my art reflect my life, then I don't wanna be right.

Sometimes my art is just what pops into my head, sometimes it's my attempt to accurately approximately represent something I've seen, and sometimes it's an illustration to reflect something that's going on in my life.

Well, sorry to report, folks, that I currently have a cold.  A drippy, whiny, pity party kind of cold.  So there ya go, my friends.

Bottoms up with my cup of water with Emergen-C...here's to feeling inspired to paint kitties, birdies, and flowers tomorrow.

P.S. Every time my family looks my way, at me holding a tissue, sniffling, hair all cwazy...well, I shout, "I'm pretty!"  Pretty sure it's agreement (or maybe fear) that I see in their eyes.

Bottoms up...and out

...as in OUTA HERE!

Yes, my bikini bottoms did finally arrive.  And I must absolutely positively be getting old because, oh my goodness, there was not enough material in the darn things.  Mind you, technically they "fit", but there's no way I could wear them in public...or private for that matter.

So I put them back in their shipping bag, made sure to keep the receipt, and felt a little defeated in the bikini bottoms shopping area.

But, being the trooper that I try to be, I made my way to the bedroom and pulled out the contents of my swim suit drawer.  In the bottom I found three bikini bottoms that had ample material, did more than enough coverage-wise, and were not threadbare at all!

Next time you seem a forty-six year old chick at the pool rockin' her granny panty bikini bottoms...yup, it'll be me!
