The Moons Rising

This is a 3 foot x 4 foot abstract, mixed media piece. Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but I did spend the weekend catching up on” Picard,” watching all of “Strange New Worlds,” and watching the first season of “Lower Decks” (what a hoot!!). Not necessarily in that order. Is it just me or do most people get weepy at all things Start Trek nostalgia. Also, one of my kids told me this weekend that he doesn’t really like Start Trek and Star Wars…and now I’m questioning my almost 30 years of parenting.

Ascending Toward the Surface

Steadily moving toward a new breath while embracing the stillness.

I'm absolutely loving doing abstracts these days...they are feeding my soul.

A Mermaid's Plea

I love painting mermaids. I've always allowed for the possibility that they are, in fact, real. I started out with the intention of painting a happy, blissful mermaid, but the news of our likely dismantling E.P.A. took me in another direction. Just like all the other creatures in the ocean, she's counting on us to protect her, to see that she's worth saving.

The Queen

I'm madly in love with tearing up catalogs and magazines and creating art inspired by all that rich color and texture.

In Full Bloom - Part 2

For several weeks now I've noticed a crushed snuff can in the park grass on my walks with Hazel. It has kind of driven me nuts as all litter does, but I just left it there. Last night as I passed it once again I promised myself that I'd pick it up the next night and dispose of it properly. Well, tonight was the next night. And, yes, I did pick it up and dispose of it properly. But the funny thing is, it triggered a memory I'd not thought about in many, many years. One day when I was walking down the street where I grew up I'd spied a snuff can. And intact one. And I'd picked up that can, too. Only that can had snuff in it. Someone else's lost snuff. And I opened it up, pinched a bit of it, and placed it between my lower lip and my teeth. It remained there for some amount of time way less than a fraction of a second before I spit that stuff right on out. Patooey! And I hate to say it, but I suspect that I did not dispose of that snuff can properly.

I finished this painting. Here's the finished piece and below are the last few stages.

"In Full Bloom"
I added details to the flowers.
I used a sponge to add a lacy look to my white flowers.
I also used a blend of white, yellow, and off white at the
bottom to cover all the drips and further refine the
leaves that were hanging down. I thought I was done
but then I realized I wanted to add more green
within the bouquet.
This was an absolute joy to paint!

Dreamer - Part 3

"Dreamer"
I neglected to document the final stages of this painting. In addition to giving her wavy hair and adding some green to the background, I painted over her right eye at least five times as I tried and tried to get that eye right...not too heavy, not too light, just right. I'm not sure it's "just right", but it is right enough. I like that her face isn't that of complete serenity. There's just the slightest touch of angst. Just like in all of us.
