A Mermaid's Plea
I love painting mermaids. I've always allowed for the possibility that they are, in fact, real. I started out with the intention of painting a happy, blissful mermaid, but the news of our likely dismantling E.P.A. took me in another direction. Just like all the other creatures in the ocean, she's counting on us to protect her, to see that she's worth saving.

"Steampunk Mermaid" and 15 Day Challenge #1 - Day 6
I'm loving painting mermaids. And this one blends two things I love, mermaids and steampunk. I've never painted anything steampunk themed, but I think there' will be more in my future.

Day 6
Words and feelings: village, neighborhood, doodle, peaceful, silence, serenity
12x12
Mixed Media
This
is part of a series of 15 day abstract painting challenges. If there's
any point in the process when you love what I've done and want me to
STOP, just let me know and it's yours. The base price will be $30 and
each day I work on it will add $10 to the price. (For example, if you
love it at day 4, it will be $70.) They will be ready to hang with the
canvas edges painted black, sealant applied, and wired for installation.
I'll be posting daily photos here (with my daily words/feelings,
because that's so much fun!). If I get all the way to day 15 they'll be
listed for sale in my Daily Paintworks gallery.

I must be a mermaid...
I must be a mermaid...
I have no fear of depths
and a great fear of shallow living.
-Anaïs Nin
Love this quote. It speaks such truth.

Medusa and the Mermaid
The other day it was super windy, and my hair, that is hardly what one would call tame, was doing its very best Medusa impression...and it was doing a fantastic job of it, I must say. I walked into the gym and the guy by the card reader said, "I like your hair."
Me: "Um, thanks." And I did my best to tamp it down just a tad. And then it sprang right back.
I did my weights, I did my cardio, I did my ab work, and then I went into the bathroom to do my, well, you know. When I went to wash my hands a woman went to the other sink. Her hair was the most amazing turquoise blue and the most spectacular brilliant green. I was standing next to what surely must've been a mermaid who'd gained her legs.
Me: "I like your hair."
Awesome walking mermaid chick: "Thanks!"
Medusa and the mermaid...fabulous!

Ideas Flow
I'm super lucky to have a kid who is super flexible about allowing his mama's ideas to flow...even if they're flowing all over him.
Today my mom and her lovely boyfriend came over for a late Christmas celebration. As was the tradition each year when I was a kid, my mom brought out all sorts of ornament making supplies. Everyone sat down and diligently began creating ornaments. Me? Well, while I did not make an ornament, I did let my creativity flow.
I clipped sparkly bits in my little guy's hair. Then I stuck golden squares to his cheeks to create "freckles". Then I hung beads around his neck. Then I put a sparkly choker around his forehead.
I'm thankful for fun family events and for my awesomely flexible kid.
This painting is also an ideas flow kind of thing. I just did random strokes, then stared at it for a bit until things simply managed to appear. Such fun!
