Days Gone By

I was digging through my desk drawers at work last week. It's not the most organized space, but it's OK, there's not much in there to keep track of. I noticed one thing, though. I have a TON of hair ties and there are some in every drawer. I haven't a clue as to why, but it's a fact. And I also have a ton of them at home.

AND I'm getting my short hair cut to an even shorter length tomorrow.

So I'm thinking that I must gather all those hair ties up and add them to my "Days Gone By" collection...current members are my nose rings, my many containers of crazy color nail polish, my belly dance stuff, my biker jacket, and on and on.

Mind you, "Days Gone By" is decidedly not a life sentence, every item is available for resurrection at a moment's notice.

When the Internet was Down

You'da thought it was a national crisis.  The internet at the house was down.  And after the moans and groans died down to a small rumble, somehow everyone ended up outside.

Basketball was played, won, and lost.  Bicycles went up ramps and flew through the air.  And even I dug up my old muscle memory and realized that I could still do the BMX bike trick I learned almost thirty years ago.

Um, yeah, this mama's still got it!

Me:  "We should just get rid of the internet.  This is so much more fun!"

<insert crickets chirping and boys' eyes rolling>

Eclipsing the Moon

Of all the heavenly bodies, our moon is most definitely my favorite.  As a child I was convinced that the moon followed me.  As a young adult I was quite sure it could sense my every thought as I gazed upon it.  These days I'm pretty darn sure that both are true.

And maybe, just maybe she'll call to me in the wee hours to take in her majesty in tonight.

The Mother Archetype

I've just completed the second in a series of feminine archetypes as part of an amazing class I'm taking.  This one represents the mother archetype.  (Click here to see the first one I did and information on the class.)

I kept envisioning mothering our children even after our mothers or we as mothers are gone.  The mother is ghostly and mothering from beyond.  The child is still full of life...and still being mothered.

And I have to admit that this is the first painting I've ever painted that actually turned out just as I'd imagined.  At almost 1000 paintings, that's kind of amazing to me.  Not that I've never done it before...rather that I actually did it!

Here's to all you mothers, both still on earth and those beyond.

When the Cat's got my Mouse

Some days I'm just clicking along, rockin' it on my computer.  And some days are like this.

"Clickety, click, click!"

"Clickety, click!"

"Click, click, click!"

And then I'm moving stuff.  I'm swiping stuff.  And ------------------------------------- nothin'.

My mind goes straight to panic.  My computer's broken!  Liquid must have somehow ended up in my keyboard!  Waaaaaaaaaaah!

Then I see my sweet, big ol' cat's paw.  It's just barely touching my track pad.  And "barely" is enough to render my swiping useless.

By the way he smirked at me I'm thinking he knew exactly what he was doing.

And since I gave him big snuggles for doing it, I'm absolutely positive this scene will be repeated again and again.

Mad Science - Parsons Style

We conducted an unintentional experiment the other night.  It froze here.  Down to about 27ยบ.  And here's what the Parsons family did...in the name of science, of course.  We did two things as an experiment to see what will freeze and what will not.

1. We left our plants outside.  We only have 3 because we happen to have conducted this same experiment in the past.

2. We left a case of Gatorade in the car.

Results:

1. Plants freeze.

2. Gatorade doesn't.

Not sure what we'll do with our results...except perhaps consider putting Gatorade in our radiators (Do cars even still have them or did they go the way of the carburetor?).  Somehow I don't think we've really learned our lesson about plants.
