Once Upon a Time he was but a Twinkle in his Father's Eye

Primal Feminine

Sometimes a random India ink doodle goes all wildly expressive, wildly feminine...primal feminine. And sometimes a dear friend sends you a perfectly timed article.

Thankful for my Muse

As I was wrapping up my 6th year of painting and starting my 7th, I thought of my muse in this wonderful art adventure I'm on. Feelings of bliss, angst, being driven, sadness, despair, triumph, compassion, calm, joy, love.... I think my painting is all about embracing those feelings and getting them out. It's all about the process. I've been asked if it's hard to let go of my work when they go to other homes and with the exception of about five pieces (all featuring my family/pets and one with a quote that particularly speaks my truth), the answer is "no". The process feeds my soul and I'm ever thankful for my muse, all those feelings, that need not be labeled good or bad, positive or negative.

This is the piece I completed on the 16th of June, the last day of my 6th year of painting.

And then over the weekend our family went to a tie dye party!

Best Friends

It's always such an honor to create a commissioned piece. I adore these two friends. Makes me think of this quote.

"Whoever said that diamonds are a girl's best friend never owned a dog."

I feel like I'm that girl...all grown up...and I even have my hair dyed bright orange right now!

Celebrating the Start of my 7th Year of Painting!

The 17th of June will mark the beginning of my 7th year of painting! What incredibly joy this has brought to my life! I'm so appreciative of all of my friends for traveling with me on this journey...from basic stick figure drawings in 2011 to paintings that actually look like what I'm intending and abstracts that delight me to no end. You've supported me with "likes" and comments and so much love along the way. To celebrate I'm going to create an album of my work over time and have them available for 70% off of my posted prices (shipping rates will still apply). Please let me know if you're interested in any of them. I'll also be offering some freebies (that's always my favorite!). xoxoxo, friends!

I'll be adding new paintings throughout the week!!

Ganesh

Ganesh...master of wisdom and intellect.
I'm opening space in our world for this presence.

Embracing Minimalism

I'm craving minimalism these days. So, so much so. I've cleared out about half of my clothing, have not purchased any new clothing this past school year (except for 3 pieces with my art on them because I like to see what my products look like before other people purchase them...this, my youngest says, totally means I blew it on my no purchase plan...), have only been using found unused dog poop bags (I blog about that here), and have been making my own shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and lotion since March.

So when I came upon the work of Melissa Dinwiddie as a part of a course I'm taking, her work drew me right in with its minimalist aesthetic. Feeling inspired, I created this three panel piece using hand-me-down canvas panels. To me they radiate joy and simplicity, and right now they're gracing my grandmother's beloved piano. Clearly my sweet cat, Ruby, finds them soothing. I concur.
