"Wonder is the beginning of wisdom."
-Socrates
Truth as old as time...I see it every day.
"Wonder and Wisdom" |
This piece is super tiny, only 3"x3". I love creating finished paintings on pieces of wood I've used as paint palettes. The final painting is the result of many happy accidents.
"Goddess of the Flames" |
I began this as a test piece for a commission. After I learned from it what I needed to I kept adding layers...and then the cat appeared...right there at the bottom. We have cats. Two of them. And they are both totally quirky in polar opposite ways. I have absolutely no idea what goes through their heads or what motivates them to do the things they do. What I know for sure is that I both love it and totally don't get it.
Fun fact, while I was using a hair dryer to dry the final layers of this painting I turned the air flow just the right direction to accidentally blow a miniature easel holding a miniature painting I'd done a while back off of a shelf and directly into the toilet. Such a cat thing to do!
"In the Mind of a Cat" |
I'm filled with optimism and hope as we move through a tangled, Sharpie strewn web. And now the work begins.
"And Now the Work Begins" |
Let nothing dim the light that shines from within.
-Maya Angelou
"Shine from Within" |
Counting cases, counting ballots, counting days...do symptoms count, do people count...what counts?
I started this painting several years ago (likely four) when I was in a particularly grouchy mood, and since then I've used it as a palette, a pen tester, and workout reps documentation. Just this morning I realized that it was a vase, sorely in need of just one terrifically optimistic flower.
"What Counts?" |
Sometimes it's hard to tell if you're rising or falling.
"Rising or Falling" |
This piece and the writing were published in Down in the Dirt magazine.
"Always in the Background" |
Falling down is sometimes part of the process.
"I'm going to lean in and feel it all."
-Brene Brown
"But now the clouds in airy tumult fly; the sun, emerging, opes an azure sky;
a fresher green the smiling leaves display, and glittering as they tremble, cheer the day."
-Thomas Parnell
Happy New Year, friends...may it bring you much peace, love, and happiness.
