A friend of mine makes the most amazing baskets from gourds. With each basket she creates there is a bit of the gourd left unused. When we were visiting recently she gave me a couple of pieces to work with. What fun!

Dream Magnet

For a long time now we've had an ugly, bare rectangular magnet on our fridge. It was part of one of those memo pads you hang on the fridge. I'd long since used up the memo pad but couldn't bring myself to toss the magnet. "I can find a use for this!" I'd thought. Well, it lived on the side of our fridge, ugly AND unused for a long time. So after my recent magnet beautification I remembered this one and beautified it as well. And now I love this little magnet!! Dreams can come true...even if you're a magnet.

Love and Joy

When I was walking to work last week I spied a few pieces of wood in a dumpster. They were the sawed off end pieces from a construction job. I grabbed three, stuck them in my backpack, and figured I'd decide what to do with them later. Since I'm trying to reduce the number of art canvas/paper/surfaces that I purchase and, instead, use items I find and give them a new life, this was a wonderful discovery.

These are the three pieces of wood I picked up.

They are crying out to be beautified!!

The first one I've finished is 5.5"x5.5"x1.5". Below are photos of all the sides. "Love" on one side and "Joy" on the other. It can be turned around depending on your mood. 😃

In today's mail I received an envelope asking for a donation. I donate to a number of charities already so I recycled everything that was recyclable. That left only this magnet. What to do...what to do....

 Well, I couldn't bear to toss it in the trash, 

so I decided I'd give it a fabulous new life with a coat of paint. Or two!

The Wonder of Color

I've decided to start creating art on items that are on their way to the dump but will now, instead, be art. This painting is on a 9"x12" piece of cardboard that was not in the recycling bin as it should have been. I snagged it and a few other pieces as well. There's something lovely about bringing life to something that has been discarded.
